Photography is defined as “The art or process of producing images by the action of light on surfaces sensitized by chemical processes.”

Of course, this is landscape photography on a big scale. Not many people are lucky enough to start off traveling the world.

The earlier model did not contain the film; instead, it had a small light-shield box with lens and translucent screen on either side. The image that traveled through the lens was stored on the screen. Known as ‘camera obscura,’ it was no more than a sketching device for artists.

There are different ways of finding photography jobs, depending on the type of job you are looking for and your experience. You can begin by creating a resume and portfolio of your work.

Learning Photography

Are you interested in taking up photography? If you are relatively new to photography, then here are some tips that will help you learn about photography and its many different qualities.

The camera

When choosing a camera, you should keep in mind that whatever kind of camera you buy, it won’t necessairily affect the final image. There are certain factors that will affect your final product regardless of camera brand. They are:

- the quality of the expected final image.
- will the image be magnified before being viewed?
- will the subject carry the whole focus of the shot?
- the time alloted to take the picture

It is also important to keep in mind that cameras work at varying speeds. This will prove to be crucial depending on the subject that you will be shooting. When taking a picture of your son or daughter while they are playing, you may opt to use an automatic camera to avoid all the fuss of making adjustments with regards to aperture, focus, lighting, etc. But if you are going to take a picture of a mountain view, then you have all the time to use a manual camera.

Lighting conditions

There are so many ways that photography crosses our lives each day. There are a lot of opportunities for someone looking for photography jobs.

Whatever your reasons, a photography contest can be a fun and rewarding experience for you. To find out all you need to know about entering a photography contest, read on.

There are some excellent photography contests out there, some even offer large cash prizes, scholarships to photography schools and really nice cameras and camera supplies.

Modern photography has given a totally new meaning to the entire perception of life and privacy. Photography has made it possible to capture and preserve special moments, in private and in public life.

Taking portraits under the sun may present some problems. Because of the sunlight’s hardness, dark shadows will may appear in the shot. To solve this problem, you can move the subject to a position under the shade to be able to use skylight instead of sunlight. Skylight is less concentrated than sunlight. Another thing that can be done is for you to take the picture during the last few minutes during sunrise or sunset. Sunlight is mouch more mellow during these times. If you have the equipment such as diffusers as well as reflectors, they will do a good job to make the shot more vibrant. The use of artificial lighting or a flash is also ideal if you know the proper way and time to use them. Avoid using the flash during sunrise and sunset since the resulting picture will look rather clammy or cold.

Exposure

There are no such things as correct exposure. It is really up to you and your artistic preferences how your picture will turn out. The environment contains many tones which can’t be fully represented using film. Some of the details might get lost depending on the picture as well as the film used.

These are some of the things that you should remember while taking pictures. As you take more and more pictures, your skills will become sharper and you will be able to use more of your creativity.

If you love taking pictures and the idea of a career in photography sounds good to you, just how do you begin finding photography jobs?

The world of photography is an amazing one. It’s been with us for quite a while now but it is constantly changing. Cameras are changing and improving. Methods of developing are changing and improving as well.

You may be amateur but if you are entering a photography contest, you are competing with the best of the best. You are going to need your photos to be excellent if you expect to win. More at http://www.snowcomet.com

This does not mean go out and shotgun blast everything you see. You still want to keep in mind the need to have a reason (theme) for taking a photography – think about how to focus attention on it, removing what distracts from your theme, and adding whatever attracts or highlights your theme, to make it a great photograph.

Black and white photography is a number of monochrome forms in visual art. Monochrome comes from the Greek monochromos meaning “of one colour”, which is a combination of monos, meaning “alone” or “solitary” and chroma meaning “colour”.

Quite basic when you break it down!

For Many decades black and white photography dominated the scene until colour was introduced. From the 16th century when the brightness and clarity of camera obscuras was improved by enlarging the hole with a telescope lens until now, we still admire the purity of black and white photography. It was not until the 17thCentury, 1727 to be exact, when Professor J. Schulze mixed chalk, nitric acid, and silver in a flask, that the first photosensitive compound was created. And in 1816 Nicéphore Niépce combines the camera obscura with photosensitive paper and created a permanent image in 1826.

In the past black and white dominated the media. Movies, television and even computers, were all monochrome. It was not until the middle of the 20th century that colour photography became popular.

Choosing a subject is essential for this type of photography, more so than choosing a subject for colour photography. While some subjects can look amazing in colour, they often look dull in black and white. Black and white photography is both the simplest and most sophisticated of all the photography disciplines. It is, honest, fresh, crisp and clean and can result in the most powerful imagery. Capitalising on its popularity, black and white photography holds its own when it comes to photographic exhibitions. Such powerful imagery can be timeless and compelling at the same time. It captures emotions, impressions, and atmosphere that depict nostalgia in a dramatic way.

In black and white photography, you will need to consider the exposure, your background, making sure that the subject is well backlit and that it does not distract from your subject. Lights and shadows are also important. For example, when you strip an image of its colour, you are left with the strictly light and shadows and subtle tones of grey. To experiment with this, you could shoot at different times during the day, that way you will learn the importance of light and shadows and how it can enhance the mood of your image. Colour is also important when considering black and white. Try and choose a subject that has fewer colours. For example; purple and green look great in colour, but in black and white, they become unrecognisable. Therefore, it is important to choose a subject that is of interest and dramatic at the same time.

Nowadays, we are seeing resurgence in black and white photography. The demand for it is rife within the media sector, such as advertising, and print form. Even consumers who want timeless photographs of their weddings and various family occasions are using black and white photography.

Most well known photographers use this medium of photography especially for people photography. From early portrait photography in the 18th century, black and white photography has had a huge impact on the success of modern photography. British photographer Julia Margaret Cameron (June 11, 1815 – January 26, 1879) became well known for her images of celebrities of her time. Even though her career was short lived, 11 years to be precise, she did not show an interest in photography until she was given a camera at the age of 48 years old. She favoured the close crop style of portraiture, a style that is still very popular today.

It is true to say that black and white photography is timeless. It can literally stop time. We only have to take a look at Ansel Adams work of the American West. Even today his images are provoking in every sense as if they could’ve been taken yesterday.

Of course the use of black and white vs. colour is a personal one, nevertheless, if it was not for the geniuses of the early part of the 16th century, we would not have been to capture time, of which is the essence.

After the popularity and growth of photography and the invention of the camera, it was no surprise that dissemination and mass production of photo prints followed. Due to the art of photography, public as well as personal history, time and perception has immortalized mankind. The concept of privacy altered as the number of public figures increased and the action of man began being recorded. Photographs became proof of any event, experience or state of being.

The art of photography

During the early stages of photography, many hardships had to be faced before it could be certified as an art form. Artists and critics alike challenged this art form on both its mechanical and chemical front. Photography, for a long time, was only considered a craft.

Removing restrictions

When art schools and museums finally accepted photography as a recognizable art form, the trend continued till present. Many photographers moved away from the traditional and conventional norms that dictated documentary and straight aesthetic modes as an expression of individuality. Photography became the major form of visual art by the 1960’s. Today, photography has been combined with a number of other forms of expression like mixed media and computer imaging.

Practical applications

There are many practical applications when it comes to photography. Photography has evolved to such an extent that it has become an instrument of expression in fields such as medicine, military activities, education and commerce. The greatest benefit of photography has been felt by science. Other fields that depend on photography are geology, aerial mapping, surveying, meteorology, archeology, and anthropology to list a few.

Digital photography

After the 21’st century, images could now be altered and manipulated in a number of ways with the aid of computer techniques and imaging. Photographic nature and technique was forever changed through digital photography. Conventionally photography involved a lens through which light had to be passed and lead to an emulsifying agent. In digital photography color filters and sensors are utilized for creating the image. Digital photography adopts two kinds of techniques. One involves using three layers of filters where each filter will allow only one color to pass through, green, blue or red.

These are just a few facts about modern photography. The art of photography has been around for almost hundred years and the innovations do not stop happening. There are still many more creative innovations yet to be invented, as the advancement of photography can never stop and it will never cease to amaze us.

Why not take a fresh approach to nature photography and concentrate on part of the view and take time to consider color, shape and texture to really appreciate the finer features of the scene.

Enter the world of close up photography that lies just beyond the familiar but so rich in detail and beauty. If we look through our close up lens with an open mind, imagination and childlike curiosity there are many close up photography opportunities for us to consider.

As nature photographers we can take this concept further, for example that distant bright yellow patch becomes on closer inspection a riotous stand of broom flowers. Closer still we see clearly the intricate detail in each flower and seedpod that we can record in our close up photography.

Now go really close, look at the seedpod with its gossamer covering of fine hairs and we start to appreciate how things fit together. Whilst this is not a scientific approach it provides a raw and basic understanding, offers enlightenment and lets us become an integral part of nature. So by going close up and concentrating on a small part of the whole we have simplified our close up photography subject, made it basic, powerful and memorable,.

There is no need to go far, finding close up nature photography opportunities should be seen as a journey of the soul, inner vision and contemplation rather than visiting a far off place. Often the deeper we look into our close up photography subjects the more rewarding they become. Without hesitation they reveal their treasures allowing us time to admire their quality. With this awareness the nature photographer with a passion for close up photography is indeed privileged.

Appreciating that all these parts form an important relationship with each other makes it is easier to understand that the whole is made up of many unique parts and like pieces of a jigsaw they combine together to create a complete picture. Indeed, only by appreciating the significance of the smallest parts of our surroundings can we can start to make sense of nature as a whole and incorporate this awareness into our close up photography.

Emotion and drama and be found in often overlooked close up photography cameos, like a delicate flower growing defiantly in a boulder crevice, its tenuous grip on life dependent on the sustenance from the crevice debris. Yet it lives on year after year, testimony to its determination and resilience. It is this inter-action that is so enduring and compelling that makes these interesting subjects perfect for nature photography.

As a close up photographer getting close up to nature allows a greater understanding and appreciation of the beauty of the natural world. For example a cold clear winter day with breathtaking crispness can be ideal for close up photography, in these conditions there are magical patterns in snow, frost and shimmering icicles. Ice patterns make perfect winter close up photography subjects; they literally capture a moment frozen in time. Depending on the prevailing weather conditions some have smooth curves whilst others show harsh jagged lines providing creative close up photography opportunities.

Early morning in spring and summer can be a wonderful time to find close up photography subjects. Flowers and grasses covered with dew or fine rain make fascinating close up photography studies, the fine hairs hold onto droplets of water almost defy gravity. In the right conditions there may be insects that after a night’s inactivity have become encrusted with minute droplets. Butterflies make excellent close up photography subjects and look stunning covered in dew as they sparkle like a myriad of jewels.

Light quality plays an important role in our close up photography, if it is too harsh the increase in contrast will actually block out the very close up detail we are trying to photograph. It is far better to have diffused light that occurs with high thin cloud cover. It provides a much softer quality of light and allows the detail, texture and nuances to be clearly seen and recorded in our close up photography. Color also influences our interpretation of the subject, vibrant colors like red and yellow for example suggest dominance and power, whereas muted tones like grey and browns convey basic, earthy and tranquil feelings.

So, if we approach our close up photography with childlike wonder and a renewed vision the natural world is undoubtedly a beautiful place. To fully appreciate it requires a little time and an inquisitive mind, it will reward you with the knowledge that even the simplest of things can bring satisfaction, contentment, harmony and inner peace.

The beauty of photography is the opportunity it provides to those who take photographs. There is a wide array of possibilities for the photographer who is looking to make money taking pictures. Some may opt to take pictures of the beautiful sunset or mountains, while others like to hire themselves out to people to take photographs for them. Event photography is a very popular type of employment within the photography industry. Event photography software serves to make this job a bit easier. Not sure what event photography is and why you might consider it? Read on to find out all the information on it.

What is Event Photography?

Have you ever been to a wedding? That’s a silly question because most likely, you’ve been to a lot of those. What about a sporting event or a concert? Chances are, if you’ve gone to any of these, you’ve noticed photographers there taking pictures of the event. This is, in a gist, what event photography is. It is photography taken at events such as a wedding, sports event, concert, awards show etc. Event photography software will help you with this job.

Do Event Photographers Make Good Money?

If you’re looking for a type of photography that is pretty much sure to earn you good money, event photography is it. While for most photographers it isn’t all about making money, they can’t deny that event photography is very lucrative. Some event photographers have reported making as much as thousands of dollars for taking pictures at one event. That’s certainly a lot of money.

It’s worth noting that not all event photographers make this type of money, although most do provided they’re very professional. Event photography software helps them to take and manage professional event photos.

What Equipment Do I Need?

People will pay to have quality event photos taken, so it’s important for you, as an event photographer, to have quality equipment. This means making a bit of an investment. You’ll need to spend money to get money you need to purchase some of the best photography equipment available, which includes the camera and event photography software.

Let’s start with the obvious: the camera. You’ll want to get a digital camera, but stay away from the very small cameras – those are for amateurs. There are some great digital cameras on the market which have the traditional camera look, but are digital. These have the big lens, great zoom features and excellent megapixel quality. Go for a digital that has at least 8 megapixels. This may cost you from $400 on up.

Grab a good event photography software program, too. A good event photography software program will allow you to manage your photos in the easiest way possible. If you’re not sure which event photography software program to buy, read some reviews online or ask around.

Next, you’ll want to invest in a big memory card. Think at least 2GB, because the photographs with the highest quality tend to take up the most space. Nothing is worse than being at a gig and running out of space, so buy a few 2GB cards and you’ll be set there.

Good batteries are also required. Make sure they are long lasting and hold a good charge (if they’re rechargeable). Get an extra set of batteries, too.

Finally, you’ll want to invest in a good stand and case. The stand will allow you to take great still shots, while the case will protect your investments. Definitely don’t skimp here.

Why Do Event Photography?

Still not sold on why event photography could be a great choice for you? That’s alright, as many people are skeptical of it. We’ll give you a couple reasons here.

-Flexibility. One of the great things about event photography is that it providers photographers with a great deal of flexibility. You are able to choose how many events you do and how many hours you work. Usually, you won’t have to work weekdays, or if you do, it may only be for a few hours. This is good for parents who want to work and still have time with their kids. Using event photography software can help to make things even more flexible and easy.

-Great Pay. Have you ever wanted to make hundreds or thousands of dollars for just a few hours work? You can do exactly this as an event photographer. Event photography pays very well, so it’s very easy to make a lot of money doing it.

Why Event Photography Software?

There are a lot of reasons why you should use event photography software, but we won’t get into all those now. Instead, we’ll just give you the biggest reason, which is that it makes your job a lot easier. Event photography software will automate the process of managing and naming photos, and will even help you when it comes time to edit the photos. That is why you should consider buying event photography software.

Macro photography is one of the most attractive and popular forms of photography. According to some experts it is very easy to master the art and techniques of macro photography – and that is, perhaps, the secret behind its fame.

Definition of Macro Photography:

Strength of the lens or the range of the lens determines whether the style can be called macro photography or not. A camera with a lens that has a 1:1 range should be used in macro photography so that the image size on the negative or slide is equal to the actual size of the subject.

Hence, if you are using 35 mm photographic film, you should use a camera that can focus on 24×36 mm small area. Then only you can take picture of a subject where the image size on photographic film is equal to the real size of the subject.

What’s interesting in Macro Photography:

Macro photography opens up the doors of a new world. It captures minute details of the subjects – such details are not at all visible in the naked eye. Hence, the viewer can reveal a lot of new things in most familiar subjects while watching the photographs. And unfamiliar subjects become more attractive in macro photography. According to photo critics – macro photography is not only attractive, but seductive!

For example, when someone takes a picture of a rusted chain in 1:1 range, you get to see the exact texture of rust. How rusts look like, what is the exact color of rust and many other minute factors come into notice. That’s what makes macro photography attractive.

Ideas & Subjects of Macro Photography:

People with a knack for photography find the subjects their own. They are artists and they have the eye for the right thing. However, those who are new in this field and about to start their career might need help finding the subject.

Snowflakes, water drops, minerals, butterflies, plants, leaves, flowers and flower petals, baby feet and fingers, eyes, spiders and spider web, insects etc. are the common subjects. Get out in your backyard garden and you will find plenty of subjects worth taking a picture. Macro photography ideas are available online to help you develop the ability to find the right subject.

Nature has always been the main subject of photography and art. However, macro photography experts often take photographs of items such as stamps, coins, automobile parts, wrist watch, pen parts, and other small things and collectibles.

Macro Photography Tutorials:

Working in this field is a new experience even for those who have been involved with photography for long. Opportunities are unlimited here – new equipments and techniques are invented everyday. With the advent of digital photography, entire world has been revolutionized.

Digital photography tutorials for macro photography help photographers make full use of digital cameras and other equipments in the process. However, it is not mandatory to use digital cameras. Traditional film based cameras are still popular and will be in the market for next few decades if not centuries.

Experts prefer SLR digital cameras for macro shooting. However, compact point and shoot cameras can yield good result too. To know more about photography, take some lessons or tutorials online. Know about photography techniques and equipments; become an expert photographer.

What Is So Good About Digital SLR Cameras

Digital SLR cameras are today the fastest expanding section of digital camera sales and are no longer just for professional photographers, but are fast becoming more affordable for amateurs. If you are serious about your photography and, because digital cameras are so affordable, there is no doubt that a digital SLR camera should be on your shopping when you are looking for a new camera.
SLR stands for Single Lens Reflex and the digital range is comparable in functionality to their 35 mm SLR equivalent and is just a computerized version of the same device, using light sensor chips and memory cards instead of film. Also known as TTL (through-the-lens) cameras they allow the photographer to see exactly what the final picture will look like because of the design that light entering the lens makes it’s way to the viewfinder via reflection by a mirror. Focus and zoom is by the use of interchangeable lenses all with various vocal lengths
Some of the disadvantages of a digital SLR camera are minimal. However, compared to point and shoot models they are usually larger and heavier meaning that they are not always readily available for that opportunist photograph. To the inexperienced user they can also appear complicated and intimidating. Susceptibility to dust contamination can also be a problem as particles can enter the camera when changing lenses although many leading companies are now introducing sophisticated dust reduction systems to counteract this problem.
Today’s digital SLR cameras are less expensive and more refined than ever and offer more expert management of your photographs. Some of the features within these cameras can include in-camera editing, image stabilization, auto focus, high-speed continuous shooting. However, because they are becoming more attractive to the amateur does not mean that more advanced photographers are losing out.
The number of digital SLR cameras that are on the market now can be overwhelming to the newcomer, but some of the popular cameras geared to be more affordable and worth considering are the Nikon D70s, Nikon D50, Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT, Canon EOS Rebel Xti, Olympus Evolt E-300, Canon EOS 10D, Nikon D40, Pentax K100D, and the Sony Alpha A100. Obviously this list is by no means complete, but is a starting point.
Whether you are upgrading from compact digital cameras or 35mm SLR camera it is easy to see that digital SLR cameras are superior to the more unsophisticated cameras. Digital SLR cameras fall mainly into four categories, between consumer and ultra professional, and it is important to determine how much you are willing to pay as at each level the price increases significantly.
Better quality images without the strain and greater flexibility are just a couple of the attractions of digital SLR photography and once you have a tried it you’ll find it difficult to return to point and shoot photography.

Should You Consider A Professional Digital Camera?

Regarded as the definitive word in artistic control for the skilful photographer professional digital cameras provide professional quality capability and most specialized photographers are now converting to capturing their pictures with the advantage of these cameras.

Now considered far superior than any film camera available many commercial as well as some amateur photographers are transferring to professional digital cameras. However, because they can be prohibitively expensive they are more for the serious photographer and not intended for people who simply want a camera to capture some vacation snaps.

These cameras have all the characteristics that a professional photographer could ever need, are adaptable, less likely to have problems during the day as they are more robust and, offer a comprehensive range of manual controls. They provide high resolution and the best available optics and are everything that professional photographers need to allow them to concentrate on creating great images.

Mainly SLR (Single Lens Reflex), the present day breed of professional digital cameras is noticeably distinct to what was being employed a year ago. Many sophisticated elements that were found only on top of the range cameras are now offered at more economical prices, but with continuing development are worlds above consumer cameras in price as well as quality and will continue to be so.

As with all digital cameras they have advantages over their film equivalents and perhaps the main benefit is the ability to edit and correct images instantly. They provide better quality for printing and online use. And of course digital files are much easier to store than film negatives and there is no film to buy.

There are disadvantages, however, to digital photography. The inability to capture pictures in black and white used to be one of the biggest drawbacks. The latest advances are beginning to overcome this, however. They are more expensive than 35mm cameras and when you add on the cost of accessories such as extra lenses it can become prohibitive. With the technology continuously shifting most digital cameras require upgrading after a few years or when the next ground breaking camera comes out.

All in all a professional digital camera can undoubtedly provide professional results and are considered the ultimate in creative control for the serious photographer and are designed to meet all the demands required by the professional.

If your thoughts on photography are to point and shoot and then pick out the best of a bad bunch of pictures you have taken then a professional digital camera is probably not for you. However, if you are serious about your photography and are always striving for the ultimate picture, then you will, in all probability, want to invest in one of these cameras to take you to the next level.
